Well...I thought I'd join the bandwagon and start a blog. 2012 has been life changing for our family. We decided in May that we'd switch from suburban living outside of Denver to living in a smaller mountain town on the Western Slope of Colorado. Needless to say- it fits us PERFECTLY! We also decided now that we live where it is easier to keep chickens we would. We started with wanting 3-4 hens to provide enough fresh eggs in the morning for our family- but because of where I got by baby chicks I ended up ordering 10 day old chicks and they were sent with 8 day old roosters too. So now we have 18- 5 week old chicks. My husband and father built them a very sturdy oak coop out of recycled oak pallets. The chickens have brought us a lot of fun watching them grow. They are finally outside full time in their coop, which is very nice since they were starting to stink up the house. The kids still love having them around and playing in their run with them. Only 13 or so more weeks till start getting eggs from them.
